It’s your journey…

“Sometimes the people around you won’t understand your journey. And that’s okay. They don’t need to, it’s not for them”.

Wise words indeed.

Throughout most of our lives, we tend to measure our self worth through how we are perceived by others. We often see ourselves through the eyes of our parents, loved ones, friends, peers, even enemies. Are they proud of me? Do they like me? Why do they hate me? Do they understand me? We are social creatures after all, and long to be accepted and loved.

It might get overwhelming at times. We’ve all been there; taken that unpopular step, resulting in lots of disappointed, disapproving, maybe even confused glances from those around us. I think anyone who’s lived has been there really. Doing something you know is right for you, yet meeting resistance from everyone else along the way.

Well, here’s a little secret I’ve learned these past few years…

It’s OK to do something disappointing every once in a while. It’s your journey, nobody else’s. It’s OK if people don’t get it, as long as it means something to you, it’s worth every step taken… The people who really matter will still be there for you at the end of the ride.

Do what YOU want to do, and for fuck’s sake, be who YOU want to be…
